12 headwords, from denomination to linked jackpot. Each gives a short meaning, an example where one helps, and the words it is often confused with.
The money value of one credit. The same number of credits is worth different amounts at different denominations.
Example A 100-credit bet is $1.00 at 1 cent per credit and $5.00 at 5 cents per credit.
A wild that, when it lands, grows to cover every position on its reel, so it can complete combinations on several rows at once.
A special round with its own rules, started by a stated condition. Free games and hold-and-spin rounds are common kinds. The rules screen describes what triggers it and what happens during it.
The condition that starts a feature, such as a set number of scatter symbols anywhere on the reels.
Example A rules line such as “3 or more scatters start 8 free games” states both the trigger and what it gives (invented wording).
also free spins
Spins played inside a feature without a new bet being taken for each one. The rules say which bet the awards are paid at, usually the bet that triggered the feature.
also double up
An option offered after a win on some games: risk that win on a guess, such as the colour of a card, to double it or lose it. It is a separate choice made after the spin, not part of the spin's result.
How often spins return any award at all, including awards smaller than the bet. It says nothing about the size of those awards.
Example An invented hit frequency of 1 in 4 means about one spin in four returns something over a long run; many of those returns can be less than the bet.
also respin feature
A feature in which certain symbols lock in place while the other positions respin a set number of times. On many games the count resets when a new symbol locks.
The top prize of a game, or a separate prize pool shown on its own display. Two questions describe it: does the amount stay fixed or grow (progressive), and does it belong to one machine or to a linked group? The rules say which, and how it is won.
Describes the common pay rule that a combination must start on the leftmost reel and continue reel by reel without a gap.
The amount bet on each payline. On a simple line game the total bet is the line bet multiplied by the number of lines played.
Example 25 lines × 4 credits per line = 100 credits total bet.
A jackpot pool shared by a group of machines, and won on one of them. Linked describes where the pool sits, not how it behaves: a linked jackpot can be a fixed amount or a progressive one that grows as the group plays.
